Tickets are available for Red Dress Luncheon

Monday, January 27th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Each year, nearly half a million women die from cardiovascular disease. Robin Harper, RN, founded the NHRMC Red Dress event and said, “Women can’t afford to wait until symptoms appear. They need to be empowered with knowledge early on so they can protect themselves against this deadly disease.”

The event has grown in popularity over the years. Last year, more than 500 women flocked to the Wilmington Convention Center to celebrate healthy hearts and raise awareness about heart disease. This year’s event is chaired by Dr. Cynthia Bowers-Lee. During a live interview for GMC, she said it is empowering to see so many women taking control of their health in the Cape Fear.

The Red Dress Luncheon is Friday, February 7. The Vender show and social hour kicks off at 11 a.m. followed by a fabulous lunch at noon at the Wilmington Convention Center. Get all the details when you watch the full interview with Dr. Bowers-Lee and then get your tickets here: http://www.nhrmc.org/reddress

Winter Storm Watches and Warnings in effect Tue-Wed

Monday, January 27th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Robeson, Bladen, Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties starting Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Onslow and Duplin Counties starting 10 am Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon.

A pleasant weekend with temperatures in the 50s will precede an even warmer Monday with highs in the 60s. But an Arctic cold front approaches from the west, and that will change our weather dramatically come Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lots of cold air will be in place in the wake of the Arctic cold front right as it stalls offshore. Waves of low pressure will ride up this front like cars on a highway. That means a lot of moisture will be available starting Tuesday afternoon. With cold air already in place, precipitation will likely fall as snow and possibly sleet in southeastern North Carolina beginning Tuesday afternoon and lingering into Wednesday night.

Accumulation of at least three inches is possible at this point. Bridges may become icy and dangerous, because those surfaces will cool much faster than the ground.

Stay with WWAY and the StormTrack 3 Weather Team for continuing developments and forecasts as the system approaches.
