WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The National Weather Service is Wilmington has issued a Winter Storm Watch starting Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday afternoon.
The watch covers part of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.
The NWS says a Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that could impact travel. Forecasters say the the risk for significant accumulations of snow and sleet is increasing and snow amounts may exceed three inches.
According to the official forecast, the heaviest snow and sleet is expected Tuesday night, but a wintry mix may begin as early as Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters say snow may linger into much of Wednesday.
