UNCW job fair helps students with new techiques in search process

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The job market is tough, especially as you come out of college to start your career.

At UNCW today students got a look at possible jobs and how the way to find jobs is changing.

“I’m looking to meet some employers, find out what opportunities there are in wilmington and other organizations that are hiring,” UNCW senior Nick Abbaticchio said. “Hopefully, I can get some interviews and go from there.”

Students came dressed to impress meeting businesses from every field. This one-stop shop included companies like Castle Branch, the American Red Cross and even Waffle House.

While resumes and tchotchkes changed hands like at any job fair, things are evolving.

The UNCW Career Center is keying in on the digital side of the job market as well, offering Linked-In headshots to help students create a polished profile online.

“Linked-In is a professional look,” UNCW Employer Development Assistant Director Mike Phillips said. “We want them to have that professional look going forward and represent themselves well as well as the university.”

Some businesses say they hire employees from this career fair every single year.
