Probe into nude student photos expands in NC

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Six more counties are now involved in an investigation into nude photos of North Carolina high school students showing up on social media.

The investigation began this month when a woman called Wake Forest police to tell them that her daughter had learned that someone had posted nude photos of her on Twitter and Instagram.

A statement from the State Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday said the agency is now looking into similar instances in Chatham, Johnston, Edgecombe, Craven, Randolph and Surry counties. Investigations were already under way in Wake, Durham and Pitt counties.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office reports two instances last week where girls reported nude photos of them appeared online.

Search warrants show authorities have subpoenaed Facebook, which owns Instagram, for user information associated with several accounts.

NC health agency mapping Medicaid overhaul plan

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

Associated Press

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory’s health agency is backing away from initial proposals to fix Medicaid costs by hiring a handful of big managed care organizations to run North Carolina’s $13 billion health care system.

The state Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday presented its framework for revamping Medicaid to an advisory group set up by McCrory. The Legislature is expected to consider changes in May.

The health agency proposes to hold down rising Medicaid costs by expanding the roughly two dozen accountable care organizations operating statewide, as the state’s doctors and hospitals recommended.

The networks of physicians or hospitals get to keep a portion of generated savings if they meet savings and treatment goals but shares the losses if patient costs exceed standards.
