Battle of Moores Creek Bridge lives on

Monday, February 24th, 2014

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — History came alive at the 283th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge.

Attendees of all ages got a taste of what it was like to live in 1776.

From cooking lessons to candle making, music, and even cannons firing, this educational event takes you to the front lines of a battle that ended royal authority in the North Carolina colony.

But Holly Hickman says there is more to the event than recreating a historical time.

“You can pick up life lessons,” Holly Hickman said. “Okay, what did this person do wrong, what did this person do right, and how did they change it and how did they help the people around them, and on a bigger scale, how did they affect their county.”

Hickman says she has made it out to the celebration several years in a row, but this year she wanted to share the experience with her friends.
