Monday, March 31st, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating an armed robbery after they say a woman was followed home from the airport and robbed at knife-point outside of her home.

They say just before 5 a.m. Saturday police say a woman told officers she was driving home from the airport when she noticed a dark-colored SUV with no headlights on behind her. She told police she continued driving, eventually pulling up at her house at 325 Windchime Drive.

Police say when the woman pulled into her garage and got out of the car, she saw a man in a hoodie with something covering part of his face standing outside with a knife in his hand. Officers say the woman initially refused to give the robber her purse, but handed it over when the man threatened to stab her.

Once the woman gave the man her purse, police say he took of driving in the SUV towards Independence Ave. WPD is investigating the crime.

WALL STREET JOURNAL: North Carolina had more job losses than any other state

Monday, March 31st, 2014

RALEIGH, NC (THE WALL STREET JOURNAL) — North Carolina led the U.S. in job losses last month, a sign of stress for a state scaling back its support for its jobless residents.

The Tar Heel State shed a seasonally adjusted 11,300 jobs in February from the prior month as it continues to grapple with the decline of its traditional manufacturing, tobacco and textile industries, according to new Labor Department figures released Friday.

Employment increased in 33 states, while it decreased in 17 states and the District of Columbia. Nationwide, payrolls rose 175,000 in February.
