WPD investigating after man stabbed several times outside Ramada Inn

Monday, March 31st, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say a man was stabbed several times by a group of men in the Ramada Inn parking lot over the weekend.

They say just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to the hotel at 5001 Market Street in reference to the stabbing. That’s where police say they found Leonel Valderrabando-Cortez, 29, lying face-down in the roadway outside of the hotel.

Officers say when they first got to the scene, they saw witnesses trying to help Valderrabando-Cortez by applying pressure to his back and stab wounds. Police say Valderrabando-Cortez was stabbed five times when he was walking in the parking lot.

They say after stabbing the man, the group of suspects jumped into a 2002 gold Nissan Altima and took off. Police say the group drove off on Market Street going west. Valderrabando-Cortez was taken to the hospital and underwent treatment there.
