Sunday, March 30th, 2014

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — In Pender County, Poplar Grove Plantation hosted the areas largest and longest running garden event this weekend.

Folks came out to see the historic sites with their wagons in hand.

Vendors and exhibits lined the walkway offering fresh displays and demonstrations.

Admission was free but donations were accepted to aid the plantation’s continuing mission of conservation, education and preservation.

The plantation’s director of tourism Felecia Greene said, “We’re on the tail-end of a 16 month renovation project to our 1853 manor house. That’s where we offer our tours.” Greene said, “We bring a lot of school children through to interpret the history that happens to be here so it’s very important for us to have close ties to the community.”

Poplar Grove’s next event will be the Kentucky Derby fundraiser May 3rd.
