UNCW fans react to Keatts hiring

Thursday, March 27th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW students say they feel the teal after they learned Kevin Keatts would call UNCW his new home.

“It is a great hire,” Josh Stott said.

“It was time for a change,” Garrett Long said.

Students look forward to the next chapter in the UNCW’s men basketball program and hope the team will soar to greatness with a new man leading the flock.

“It sounds like they are trying to defiantly get some fresh blood in there, get it started again,” Conner Price said.

To help revive the program, some hope to see a little more than just a new coach.

“He is hopefully going to get some pretty big recruits here,” Stott said.

Other students think Keatts will only build on the effort the current players already bring to the court.

“They may have had a losing season, but you’ve seen the effort the team has put in in a lot of the games they went to, so I think this new coach will definitely make the next season better,” Jonathon Crowder said.

Vince Troutner said, “I hope it works out for them. I would like to see some wins.”

With wins and loses months away, the focus is now on a future fans hope will be much brighter than the recent past.

“It will be a morale booster for UNCW Seahawk basketball as a whole,” alum Darien Brooks said.
