GREENSBORO, NC (AP) — Two candidates seeking to chase down presumed front-runner Thom Tillis in the Republican US Senate primary have become bolder in attacking him 30 days before early voting begins.
Cary obstetrician Greg Brannon and the Rev. Mark Harris of Charlotte are questioning the decisions and conservative credentials of Tillis, the current state House speaker. Brannon has accused Tillis of “record of a culture of corruption” that makes him unelectable in November.
Harris said Tuesday that Tillis’ activities while speaker is fair game, especially when Tillis says his accomplishments separate him from the rest of the field.
Tillis said in a statement he’s getting attacked because his campaign is successful.
Eight Republicans are running for the right to take on Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan.
