Man calls police, winds up in jail on drug trafficking charges

Monday, April 28th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you’re going to ask police to check your home for a possible intruder, make sure you don’t have drugs packaged for sale inside.

That’s what Wilmington Police say happened late last night when Bruce Rickenbacker reported someone may have broken into his house on Highland Drive. WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley says when Rickenbacker returned home from out of town, he thought someone was inside, because the lights were on.

Rawley says Rickenbacker allowed officers to go in and check it out. While they were inside, police say they found a room with a substantial amount of cocaine and marijuana packaged for sale.

Police say there was no evidence of a break-in, but the drugs were evidence enough to take Rickenbacker to jail. He is charged with cocaine trafficking, drug possession and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.
