Monday, April 28th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating a car crash after they say a man was killed when he hit a tree and power pole late last night.

Officers say the single-car crash happened just after 10 p.m. at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Bryan Avenue. Wilmington Police responded to the crash, saying a man in his early 20s was the only person in the car.

Police say they believe alcohol and speed to be factors in the accident. They say they are still working to notify the man’s family before releasing his name. Officers say the man is from the Wilmington area.

Leading GOP candidates in final NC Senate debate

Monday, April 28th, 2014

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC (AP) — Four leading candidates for North Carolina Republican’s nomination for U.S. Senate get one more chance to persuade voters in a statewide television debate one week before primary election day.

Greg Brannon, Heather Grant, Mark Harris and Thom Tillis were scheduled to participate in their third and final debate of the campaign Monday night at the University of North Carolina Television studios. Eight GOP members are seeking to challenge Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan in November.

The four participants projected largely similar views on issues in two debates last week, with Tillis promoting his record as House speaker. Brannon’s answers referred repeatedly to the U.S. Constitution, while Harris focused on character. Grant talked often about raising up future party leaders.

Early in-person voting already has started. The primary is May 6.
