WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating after they say a shot was fired into a child’s bedroom.

WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley says an officer was on Market St. around 11 p.m. Friday when he heard shots fired from Princess Place Drive. A woman flagged the officer down and said she was in bed when she heard three or four gunshots. When she went to check on her 2-year-old son, she found a bullet on the floor of his room.

NC highway marker to honor furniture industry

Monday, April 28th, 2014

HIGH POINT, NC (AP) — A state Highway Historical Marker is being dedicated in High Point to recognize the importance of the furniture industry to North Carolina.

The marker will be dedicated on Main Street on Monday, the final day of the spring High Point Market. The market is billed as the largest home furnishings trade show in the world.

High Point emerged as a furniture manufacturing center in 1900, and its 10-story exposition building opened in June 1921 with 249,000 square feet of space. The market now has more than 10 million square feet of space.

At its peak, the state’s industry included more than 660 manufacturers and produced in excess of $6 billion in furniture and furnishings in North Carolina.
