Convicted killer charged with murder of missing Shannon Rippy

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — A convicted murderer and co-worker of missing Wilmington woman Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk has been arrested and charged in her killing after her body was recovered in Pender County on Tuesday, Vannewkirk’s friend and employer Steve Mott confirmed this morning.

James Opelton Bradley, 51, of 2505 Flint Drive in Wilmington, is being held without bail in the New Hanover County jail on a charge of first-degree murder.

During a 9:30 a.m. news conference this morning, Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said Vannewkirk’s remains were found about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday off Hoover Road in Hampstead. Bradley was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop at 17th Street and Shipyard Boulevard.
