Local veterans cite issues with area VA facilities

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As President Obama promises to fix problems with the Department of Veterans Affair, veterans we spoke with in Wilmington said they are certainly concerned about what’s happening with the VA.

While the VA hospital and clinics in our area are not under investigation, veterans who use them say there are still improvements that could be made. They say it takes too long to get appointments, and staff turnover is fairly high, though that pales in comparison to what’s happening at other hospitals.

“I think people need to be held much more responsible,” Marine Corps veteran Duck McCambridge said. “To hide all that stuff that’s blatant fraud, to do that not only to deny the veterans the coverage, but to wait for them to die.”

The president has promised a thorough investigation into exactly what happened.
