Wilmington man arrested after getting caught firing from bedroom window

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man was arrested after police say he was intoxicated when he was caught and arrested for firing a rifle out of a bedroom window yesterday afternoon.

Police say around 3 p.m. Lee King, 66, was reportedly shooting a gun out of an upstairs window at his home in the 700 block of Campbell Street. They say residents living there with King called dispatchers to report the crime.

Police say when they got to the home officers first evacuated the house, sending several schools to go under lock-down while they searched the area. After investigating near and around the property, police say that’s when they discovered the .22 rifle in King’s bedroom.

King is in the New Hanover County Jail under $22,000 bond for firing the gun within city limits, along with possession of a firearm by a felon. Police say no one was hurt in the shooting.

Obama: Any misconduct at VA will be punished

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

MATTHEW DALY
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says if there’s misconduct at the Department of Veterans Affairs, it will be punished.

Obama says if the allegations of misconduct prove to be true, it is dishonorable and disgraceful. He says, quote, “I will not tolerate it, period.”

Obama says he won’t stand for people covering up long wait times or cooking the books. He says no Americans should.

But Obama is also asking for patience while investigators get to the bottom of what happened.

Obama spoke after an Oval Office meeting with VA Secretary Eric Shinseki and top aide Rob Nabors. Obama has tasked Nabors, his deputy chief of staff, with overseeing a review of the VA health system.

Brunswick Co. Sheriff’s Office warns female real estate agents about suspicious man

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Sheriff’s detectives are asking the public, particularly women who are in real estate, to be cautious of a man claiming to be a high ranking VP with the Hanes Corporation and wanting to relocate to our area.

Investigators say the man, who has used the names “Eric Mullins,””Steven Mullins””Alex Mullins” and possibly “Steven Kincaid,” has reportedly insisted to be shown property by female real estate agents in both Brunswick and Horry counties. While on site with the agents, they say he has exhibited odd and inappropriate behavior.

“Mullins” is described as a white male, about 6’4″ tall with a paunchy build and thinning black hair. He is also known to wear gold-rimmed glasses. His last known vehicle was a white SUV with Georgia license plates.

Detectives are asking women in the real estate profession to use extreme caution and show properties in pairs if possible. They advise that if the situation does not “feel right,” it probably is not and to call 911.

Anyone with any additional related information should contact Det. Ronald Clarke at (910) 386-7080.
