DAY 26: Calvary Cemetery owner Jack Krupicka breaks promise to clean up; City will fine him $100 today

Monday, May 19th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In a story ONLY ON 3, we told you about families upset with the state of their loved ones’ graves at Calvary Cemetery in Wilmington.

It’s been cluttered with trash and debris for years. Some say they can’t find the graves of their loved ones because of all the clutter. Others have even explored exhuming and moving their family members.

In April, owner Jack Krupicka made a promise to several families to clean up the mess, but that still has not happened. It’s now been 26 days since he made that promise and nothing has been done.

The City of Wilmington also cited Krupicka for violating city code. A letter posted on the property May 1 says he has until May 18 to clean up the cemetery or he’ll be fined $100 a day.

Family members have told WWAY that they are getting together Saturday to help clean up the cemetery, but haven’t confirmed any specifics yet. We will update you as soon as we know the details.
