Police say repeat offender caught breaking into unlocked cars

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police have arrested a man they say they caught breaking into cars at a Wilmington apartment complex.

Officers responded to the Berkshires at Pecan Grove apartments in the 3400 block of Wilshire Blvd. after a concerned citizen called to report someone breaking into a car. The witness told police the man had already broken into three other cars.

When officers got there they found Rajohn Utley, 21. Police say all of the cars he broke into were unlocked.

Utley is charged with three counts of breaking or entering a motor vehicle. He is in jail under $60,000 bond.

The NC Department of Corrections website shows Utley has a criminal record dating back to 2009. It includes two dozen convictions for crimes including breaking into cars, larceny and drug possession.
