WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington teen has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating his girlfriend Friday night.
Michael Hutton, 18, was taken from a courtroom this afternoon in handcuffs and sent to jail under $1 million bond. He was originally charged with felony assault. His charges now include attempted first degree murder and attempted kidnapping.
Hutton is accused of beating Hannah Connaway, 17, Friday night. She reportedly needed brain surgery after the attack on Northwoods Drive. Prosecutors say she is still in critical condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Court records show Hutton also has a pending charge of assault on a female with a court date set for next month. He is also due in court in July on a 2013 marijuana possession charge.
