New marker symbolizes rebirth for historic building

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A historic downtown Wilmington building now dons a shiny new plaque.

From a Masonic hall to a grocery store, music venue to nightclub and now pizza place, the Masonic Hall building at 125 Market Str. has seen it all.

Now that the building is restored and home to Slice of Life, the Historic Wilmington Foundation thought it was time to restore the plaque as well.

“The thing that’s great is it’s setting a new tone with a new plaque, a rebirth of this building, new business in the building,” Slice of Life owner Ray Worrell said.

Worrell says looking at the old plaque, it reminds him of the condition he got the building in: worn and tattered. But now that renovations are complete on all three floors, he says the building has new life.

SURPRISE SQUAD fills up grocery carts in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Surprise Squad not only filled up some grocery carts, it also helped out a good cause at the Food Lion in Whiteville Thursday.

As a special promotion at Food Lion, for every re-usable bag a customer buys for a $1.19, Food Lion will donate five meals through their Feeding America program.

Thanks to Alan Perry and Perry’s Emporium for allowing WWAY’s Surprise Squad to continue to give back to the community.
