UPDATE: Standoff at Mayfaire apartment complex ends peacefully

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A police stand-off that started at 11:30 Tuesday morning ended peacefully without incident around 11 p.m.

The Wilmington Police Department said in a news release that the male subject, who is an off-duty police officer, was taken into custody and transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

When officers responded to the call at the Reserve at Mayfaire, family members told police the subject barricaded himself in his apartment and threatened to commit suicide.

For more than 11 hours, police negotiators, SWAT officers, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and EMS were on the scene working to resolve the matter peacefully.

Police said there was no immediate threat to the public, and they allowed tenants to come and go from the complex during the stand-off. Police did have to block off some streets in the area.

Police are not releasing the person’s name at this time.

UPDATE: ‘Critical incident’ involves man barricaded, threatening to commit suicide

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are still on the scene of what they’re now calling “a critical incident that involves just one person” off Eastwood Road.

It’s going on in at the Reserve at Mayfaire apartment complex.

A WPD spokeswoman says around 11:30 am officers responded to a call at an apartment complex near Mayfaire where a subject had barricaded himself in his apartment threatening to commit suicide. Police negotiators, officers and EMS have been on the scene working to resolve the matter peaceably.

Police say there is no immediate threat to the public.
The name of the subject is not being released at this time. WPD has set up a command post at a hotel nearby.

Officers have some streets in the area blocked off, including Parker Farm Road at the apartment complex, but residents have been able to come and go.

WWAY has a crew on the scene and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
