WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A police stand-off that started at 11:30 Tuesday morning ended peacefully without incident around 11 p.m.
The Wilmington Police Department said in a news release that the male subject, who is an off-duty police officer, was taken into custody and transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
When officers responded to the call at the Reserve at Mayfaire, family members told police the subject barricaded himself in his apartment and threatened to commit suicide.
For more than 11 hours, police negotiators, SWAT officers, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and EMS were on the scene working to resolve the matter peacefully.
Police said there was no immediate threat to the public, and they allowed tenants to come and go from the complex during the stand-off. Police did have to block off some streets in the area.
Police are not releasing the person’s name at this time.
