WPD dealing with ‘critical indident’ at Mayfaire apartment complex

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have spent the afternoon on the scene of what they are calling “a critical incident” off Eastwood Road. It’s going on in an apartment complex at Mayfaire.

Police will not say exactly what is happening, but they say there is no immediate danger to residents in the area. Police ask for the community’s patience as they try to resolve the situation.

Officers have some streets in the area blocked off.

Wilmington chase suspect’s SC fugitive case continued

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man accused of leading a police chase last fall that ended with a police dog’s bite will stay in the New Hanover County Jail for now.

Johnnie Lamont Williams was in court today for a fugitive warrant from South Carolina. His case was continued.

Williams is charged with attempted murder in Beaufort County, SC, after allegedly trying to hit three officers with his car two years ago.

Williams is due back in court next month for his charges from last fall’s chase after investigators say he drove through a Halloween night DWI checkpoint in Wilmington.
