Three dead in Fayetteville shooting that wounded deputies

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) — Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says two deputies were hurt Wednesday morning in a shootout that left the suspect and two others dead, including a child.

It happened around 7 a.m. at the Crystal Springs Mobile Home Park in the 5100 block of New Moon Drive in Fayetteville – the area is off Crystal Springs Road between Cumberland and Camden roads.

The shootout was reportedly the result of a domestic dispute between a man and his grandfather.

Laurence Lovette found not guilty in 2008 murder of Duke student

DURHAM, NC (WTVD) — A Durham jury has found Laurence Lovette not guilty in the murder of Duke University graduate student Abhijit Mahato in January 2008.

Just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, the jury of 10 women and two men said it unanimously agreed there was not enough evidence presented by prosecutors to find Lovette guilty of robbery and first-degree murder.

The announcement brought hugs from defense attorneys and tears from Mahato supporters in the courtroom.
