Deputies: Man wanted after armed robbery at Jacksonville sweepstakes café

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two men wanted for the robbery of a sweepstakes business.

According to a news release from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, investigators issued a warrant for Deontre Ulysses Randall, 21, for the armed robbery of the Lucky Time Internet Café Monday around 11:30 p.m. in Jacksonville. In the news release, investigators also had a message for Randall: “This Warrant will not go away so do the right and smart thing, turn yourself in.”

Investigators said two men walked in and held an employee at gunpoint before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash. They added that an additional warrant will likely come for the second suspect.

Investigators said both men should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows where Randall is should call the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 455-3113.

New Hanover Co. Sheriff: Internal investigation into Hewett death complete

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s office has wrapped up its internal investigation into the death of former Brunswick County Sheriff Ronald Hewett.

In a press release, Sheriff Ed McMahon said they reviewed numerous documents, audio and video recordings, witness interviews, and other pieces of submitted evidence. He says that the personnel at the New Hanover County Detention Facility involved acted in accordance with their policies and procedures.

However, Hewett’s death is still being investigated separately by the State Bureau of Investigation. After completing its report, the SBI will forward it to the New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Sheriff McMahon said it is his intention that, once the SBI report is finished and has been reviewed by the District Attorney, he can release all the information including video contained in the internal investigation, consistent with what North Carolina law allows and with respect for the wishes of Mr. Hewett’s family.

Durham police investigate bus explosion

DURHAM, NC (AP) — Durham police are investigating an apparent chemical explosion on a city bus.

Police were called to a bus around 9:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the driver reported that a man got on the bus with a jug and when the man got off the bus later, the jug exploded. The police statement called it a “Draino Bomb.”

Police said one passenger was treated for exposure to the chemicals. Officials said the bus was not seriously damaged.

No arrests have been made.
