Police: Three armed men steal keys from inside home, take off in car

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say three men with guns walked up to a Wilmington home and forced their way inside before stealing some keys and taking off in the car outside.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. when officers say a man who lives inside a home in the 600 block of Meares Street was standing outside his house. That’s when they say three men, all holding handguns, pushed the man back inside before ransacking the home.

Police say the trio took a set of keys while they were inside, eventually taking off from the scene in the car parked outside. Officers say the man who was robbed told them the keys and car belong to his wife.

At last check, the three men and the stolen car were still at large. WPD says no one was hurt during the crime, but say officers are still investigating.

UPDATE: WPD searching for masked men they say stole car after ransacking home

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for three masked men they say used guns to force their way inside a Wilmington home before ransacking the place and stealing a car from the driveway.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. when officers say a man who lives inside a home in the 600 block of Meares Street was walking between houses to get to his car. That’s when they say trio, all wearing bandannas over their faces, forced their way inside the man’s house, holding him at gunpoint.

Police say the robbers ransacked the home, taking a set of keys while they were inside. They say the trio, who all had handguns, took off from the scene in a car parked in the driveway. Officers say the man who was robbed told them the car, which was a 2003 gray Infinity, belongs to his wife.

Wilmington Police say the robbers are described as three black males in dark clothing, one of them shorter than the other two tall men. They also say one of the men walks with a limp. WPD says no one was hurt during the crime, but say officers are still investigating.
