WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Dodgeball for some reason or another over the course of time vanished as a recreation choice for school children. It’s now back on the forefront again, with adults. In fact Monday marked the opening night of the new dodgeball league at the Wilmington Athletic Club. It’s more social than competitive, but the competitive juices definitely comes out when the whistle is blown.
Superman likes to dodge bullets. Politicians like to dodge questions, but the name of the game in this adult dodgeball league is social. After all, it’s a co-ed sports league for grownups. “Just playing a game that I hadn’t played in years was really fun,” dodgeball participant Thomas Esenbock said. “Honestly, that was the biggest thing. Coming out and having fun, acting like a kid again.”
“It’s social, it’s active and it’s a great way to meet new people,” Sara Cramer told us. “Just mingling and exercising and having a great time. Did you get hurt playing out there tonight? Yes, I did, but nothing a little ice can’t fix.”
The Wilmington Athletic Club serves as the host location. Cape Fear Sports actually runs the Adult dodgeball league. “We sold out our first inaugural season,” Cape Fear Sports organizer Tim Cramer said. “We have 12 full teams. The teams have between 6 to 10 players.”
Clark Shay of Cape Fear Sports added “everyone has to be at least 21 years old. It’s a big social setting, we go out afterwards, have a few beers, grab some dinner, get to know everybody, enjoy both your team and your competitors.”
The next sports league activity for Cape Fear Sports will be human foosball. More info check out www.capefearsportsnc.com
