Saying goodbye to summer with sunshine

Sunday, August 31st, 2014

CAROLINA BEACH (WWAY) — Kids are heading back to school. Marley Walson, a 3rd grader, says, “It’s sad.” Saying goodbye to the summer’s last weekend in Carolina Beach.

Wilmington resident Jocelyn Walson explained her plans for the holiday weekend. “Just having a relaxing day with the family now that it’s finally not raining in Wilmington and enjoying the beach and the boardwalk down here in Carolina Beach,” she said.

Labor day weekend is the unofficial end of the season. Tony Scatterfield, Hampstead resident said, “It’s an absolutely beautiful day. Beautiful day to be at the beach.”

Hot temperatures and sunny conditions filled the skies. Perfect to enjoy something cold. Marley Walson, says she and her family “went to Krazy Kone and got some ice cream.”

Some say it was perfect for something hot.
Many were in Carolina Beach getting their last minute fix of Britt’s donuts before they close for the season.

Tony Scatterfield has been eating Britt’s Donuts for about 50 years and for him, there’s nothing better. “Our plans were to make sure we got some Britt’s donuts before the summer was over,” said Scatterfield.

Summers end mean changes too. Britt’s is only open weekend now.

If summer has to say goodbye, this is probably the nicest way it could do it. Jocelyn Walson says, “Summer is definitely ending in a beautiful way.”

A holiday weekend, a picturesque exit for summertime.
