Police: Man robs Oceanic employee at gunpoint near restaurant, takes off with cash

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say an Oceanic employee was robbed at gunpoint while walking to a public parking lot across the street from the restaurant.

It happened Monday around 9:15 p.m. when Wrightsville Beach Police say the worker was going to their car to get something. That’s when they say a man walked up to the employee and demanded they hand over their wallet.

Police say when the worker handed over the wallet, the robber took cash out of it and threw it on the ground before he took off running. Wrightsville Beach Police say they called in Wilmington Police and K-9 units to help in the search for the suspect, but officers were unable to find the man.

They say the robber is described as a black man, standing at about 5’10” and 175 lbs. Police say he has a mustache, was wearing black jeans, boots and an Ecko sweatshirt with a white rhino graphic on the front of it. They also say the man had his hood up, which covered his face, and was also wearing a hat at the time of the crime.

Police say the man got away with somewhere between a few hundred dollars. Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Wrightsville Beach Police Department at (910)256-7945.
