Police: Suspect stabs man in chest while walking down Wilmington street

Friday, August 22nd, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for a suspect they say stabbed a Wilmington man in the chest when he was walking down the street yesterday afternoon.

Wilmington Police say officers first found out about the crime around 1:30 p.m. when the victim, Anthony Smith, 23, showed up at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with a stab wound to his chest area.

Officers say Smith was walking down Red Cross Street when another man approached and confronted him. That’s when police say the man swung at Smith with a knife, stabbing him in the chest. Smith was then taken to the hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male, between 5’6″ and 5’8″ tall, with a buzzed haircut. Police say the man was wearing dark pants and had a black shirt wrapped around his head at the time of the crime. There is no word yet on Smith’s condition.
