NC Shell Show displays shells from all over the world

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Do you enjoy collecting shells? The Cape Fear Museum had quite an unique assortment of shells on display this weekend for the Annual North Carolina Shell Show.

The museum was filled with shell exhibits, shell vendors, the popular “pick a shell” table where you can start your own shell collection, experts to answer questions about shells and more.

Shell Show Chairman, John Timmerman, said, “There are a lot of shells from North Carolina including our state shell the scotch bonnet. I’ve got some shells here on display from the Outer Banks. I got a fossil shell from the local stone quarry up in Castle Hayne, and I got shells from right down the road at Fort Fisher.”

Exhibitors were from across the country displaying many shells they have collected, purchased, and traded from all over the world.

The Cape Fear Museum says this is an excellent opportunity to learn more about seashells and hopes the show will continue to be held in Wilmington in the years to come.
