HORRY COUNTY, SC (WPDE) — Hank Smith, the former police officer from North Carolina who police say led Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase Tuesday night was denied bond Sunday afternoon.
Smith barely spoke in court, except to respond to Judge Dennis Phipps, responding at all questions with “yes, Sir.” For the rest of the bond hearing, Smith was silent, looking down at times. He was not represented by an attorney.
The Horry County Police Department has charged Smith with one count of Attempted Murder, South Carolina Highway Patrol has charged him with one count of Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has charged him with seven counts of Attempted Murder. All these charges are from Tuesday’s chase.
