FAIR BLUFF, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s office says James Scott and Earnest Smith were arrested on drug charges over the weekend.

Both of these men are alleged drug dealers that are involved with the trial for former Fair Bluff police chief Marty Lewis.

James Scott testified during the trial for Lewis last week. Scott told the jury he and Lewis were close friends. Scott also told the jury he sold Lewis drugs several times.

Lt. Hewett with the Columbus County Sheriff’s office says Scott was arrested by the Fair Bluff police department early Saturday morning for maintaining a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, and felony possession of cocaine. Scott bonded out that same day for $16,000.

SBI investigator Adrienne Harvey also mentioned the name Earnest Smith when she testified in the Lewis trial last week. Witnesses say Smith is also an alleged drug dealer. Harvey seized phone records from Marty Lewis in the investigation that show Lewis and Smith making phone calls to each other.

Lt. Hewett says Smith was arrested early Monday morning. Smith was charged with conspiring to traffic cocaine. Smith also bonded out on the same day for $10,000.
