Investigators try to figure out cause of fire at Carolina Beach Boardwalk

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that wiped out the Arcade at Carolina Beach and damaged two other businesses.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire. They say the arcade is a total loss, but Frank’s Pizza next door suffered minor damage. Firefighters say a shop behind the arcade was also damaged.

No one was hurt.

The owner of Britt’s Donuts says he was closing up shop for the season when he saw white clouds of smoke and called 911.

“It really flared up real…it got so bad that I had to go back down the alleyway. I couldn’t even hardly breathe, and it just escalated from there,” Bobby Nivens said.

He says strong winds fueled the fire, but he is just glad no one was hurt.

Officials say at the moment, the fire does not look suspicious.
