Trial underway for former Fair Bluff police chief

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Testimony began today in the trial of a former police chief accused of being caught selling drugs on the job. Former Fair Bluff Police Chief Marty Lewis faces multiple felonies.

After opening statements a former Fair Bluff patrol officer was the first witness brought to the stand. Then attorneys called SBI Investigator Adrienne Harvey. She was then questioned about her investigation of Lewis.

The defense started questioning Harvey about the burglary that took place at the Fair Bluff Police Department in June 2010. Harvey said she was called in, because, she was told, there were two hand guns and some other evidence missing from Lewis’s office.

After questioning the other officers, Harvey says she became concerned when she was told Chief Lewis may have had a relationship with an alleged drug dealer named James Scott, so she got search warrants to get Lewis’s phone records.

“Reviewing the text messages that I obtained through the search warrant, that further established the relationship between Marty Lewis and Tamika Packer and showed through those text messages that Marty Lewis was obtaining pills from James Scott and providing them to Tamika Packer,” Harvey said.

Packer was the Fair Bluff Town Clerk, who has also been charged and fired.

WPD spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay said it happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at 321 Mercer Ave.

The homeowner told police she was in the process of moving out and came back to clean when she found the naked man inside. The woman quickly left and called her property manager, who then called police.

Lindsay said police arrested Marlon Walker, 26. He told police he got in the house through an unlocked door. No property was damaged.
