Special Halloween Edition of Pet Pals!

Friday, October 31st, 2014

WILMINGTON (WWAY) — Every week, a pet up for adoption is featured in Pet Pals.

Local animal shelters bring a pet in need of a home to our studios so viewers have a chance to meet the animal, and get information on how to adopt them.

This week it is a five month old male Schnauzer mix who was brought in by a family that didn’t have time for a dog.

He has been neutered and has all of his necessary shots.

He is available at New Hanover County Animal Services at 180 Division Drive in Wilmington.

Sunset Beach Police looking for man who attacked, robbed elderly woman in parking lot

Friday, October 31st, 2014

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Sunset Beach Police are asking for help as they investigate the robbery and attack of an elderly woman in a parking lot in broad daylight.

It happened Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Walgreen’s at 842 Sunset Blvd. North in Sunset Beach.

Investigators say at about 1:20 p.m., a 90-year-old woman was walking from her car to the store, when she was approached by an unknown white man in his early 20s. The man struggled with the woman, which caused her to fall to the ground as he stole her purse.

The man is described as about six feet tall, about 200 lbs. with a medium build. He was wearing a black shirt, black and red athletic shorts and a black ball cap. He walked south down Seaside Road on foot.

The victim was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, police say.

Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to contact the Sunset Beach Police Department at (910) 579-2151.
