WPD: Man was drunk when he hit police patrol car downtown

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police arrested a man they say was drunk when he hit a police patrol car early at an intersection in downtown Wilmington Wednesday morning.

Wilmington Police say it happened at around 1:30 a.m. when a car was making a wide turn onto Orange Street from Front Street. That’s where police say the man lightly struck an officer’s patrol car with his vehicle.

Police say there was no obvious damage to the patrol car, but after further investigation they discovered that the driver was impaired. Officers say the man already had his license revoked because of a previous DWI charge.
