Wilmington has some creepy cemeteries

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Is Wilmington spooky? Parts of it are for sure and a new ranking says we have two of the spookiest cemeteries in the country.

It’s no secret Wilmington has it’s haunts but is it the creepiest in the country some folks seem to think so.

A new ranking out from Fox News says Wilmington has not one but two cemeteries on the country’s top 10 spookiest. Bellevue Cemetery and St. James Parish cemetery both made the list. The cemetery at St. James is one of the oldest in town.

Folks who live and work nearby say it’s an interesting place to have around but not a bad one.

“Absolutely not. I think they watch over us and they are the quietest neighbors we’ll ever have,” said Laura Nasser who lives across the street.

One local tour guide tells people about the haunts of Wilmington for a living. He says Wilmington is the first place he’s lived that made him a believer.

“I believe there’s something even on my ghost tour I rarely use the words spirits or ghosts,” Anthony Lawson said, adding he thinks of it as an energy of some kind instead.
