WPD makes an arrest in Sunday’s homicide

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police said they made an arrest in the Sunday night homicide.

Investigators said Marokus Ballard, 19, was charged in the murder of Hisan Polk, 23. Police said Ballard will make his first court appearance Thursday morning at the New Hanover County Courthouse.

Polk was found on the 1500 block of South 15th Street suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Firefighters respond to fire at 2nd & Princess

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department responded before 9 a.m. to a fire at a building at 202 Princess St. in downtown Wilmington. The address is listed for Mugsy’s Pub.

WFD spokesman Battalion Chief David Hines said the incident commander asked for additional units. Hines said the fire is running through the building, but a search found no one inside.

Emergency crews blocked off Princess Street between N. 3rd and Front streets as firefighters worked. Parts of N. 2nd Street were also reportedly closed.
