$143 million in uncompensated care; NHRMC deals with Affordable Care Act changes

In fiscal year 2014, New Hanover Regional Medical Center posted their highest earnings ever, working with a $818 million budget. Hospital officials say the higher margin is due to intense cost cutting and preparation for what they call The Perfect Storm – simultaneous cuts to Medicare and Medicaid along with the full effect of the Affordable Care Act being realized.
