A closer look: WPD sees low arrest rates despite Shot Stopper software use

The Wilmington Police Department bought Shot Spotter software in 2011 because it would allow them to respond to areas they would never otherwise be. The devices detect the sound of gunfire and immediately send alerts to dispatch and squad cars, leading them to scenes even if no one calls 911.
