Wrightsville beach is the closest to Wilmington, just take Eastwood road (Hwy 74) east and you will come to Wrightsville beach. It features many water sports as well as a fishing pier. Carolina and Kure Beach are south of Wilmington on Pleasure Island. Just take Carolina Beach road, also known as Highway 421, to get there. Carolina Beach features an old fashioned boardwalk with a variety of shops and a pier. Kure Beach is quiet and also has a fishing pier. At the south end of Kure Beach you will find Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
